At-Home Amenities Emerge as Top Design Trend for 2020/2021

February 11, 2021

These days we’re spending much more time at home than we’re used to, as our residences have become workplace, school, gym, restaurant, and more. As we traded nights out for nights in, we saw a shift in the homebuyer need for at-home amenities that may have at one point felt optional: fitness center, quiet spaces for remote work and study, kitchens to accommodate cooking and happy hour, and at-home entertainment. When thinking about these trends, one thing came to mind for us—our current offering in Woodinville, WA, Bear Creek Farm Retreat. Nestled in the heart of wine country, this 4.7-acre estate is the pinnacle of grand elegance and at-home amenities. Below we’ve outlined some of our favorite, on-trend features.

Home Gyms

Whether starting the day with a workout or entertaining friends with an afternoon game, the auxiliary barn area has everything you need: a pickleball court, golf simulator and full gym with mirrors. Weather permitting, the activities extend outside too with a friendly competition in the horseshoe pits or bocce ball court or a play session with your favorite four-legged family member.

The Chef’s Kitchen

As dining out became dining in, state-of-the-art kitchens were a must, and Bear Creek Farm Retreat does not disappoint. Thermador refrigerators and a Bertazzoni gas range meet hand-built cabinetry and a walk-in pantry to store as much as one needs. A marble island with banquette seating is great for casual breakfasts while the adjacent family room offers space for a quiet moment or lively celebration. The kitchen also seamlessly fuses indoor and outdoor living.

Outdoor Spaces

A Nana wall system opens to the fabulous sunroom, envisioned both for the summer sunshine of BBQs—with an outdoor kitchen and pizza oven—and as a year-round haven with heaters and cozy fireplace. This area serves as the first invitation to an entertainer’s paradise at the rear of the home, as a deck flows down dual staircases to a swimming pool and spa.

Moving outside, the grounds are well suited to accommodate the steward’s needs, whether its picking fresh faire from the herb garden, entertaining guests at the fireplace and firepit or listening to the tunes of the outdoor speakers poolside amidst expansive entertaining areas with trellises.

Remote Learning & Work

There are a variety of flexible spaces throughout the home that are well-suited to meet the needs of the workweek, whether it’s remote learning or an at-home office. The main library with floor-to-ceiling shelves is a sophisticated office, while the upper bonus room provides three built-in desks for a collaborative yet studious environment.

Sunday Funday gets a whole new meaning in the lower level of Bear Creek Farm Retreat. From a two-lane bowling alley and movie room for 14 to a second kitchen with bar seating and 500-bottle wine cellar, what more could one need?

The Hobbyist

The final stop on our journey is the stuff a hobbyist craves: a four-car garage, boat storage, RV parking and a detail shop with a spray booth and lift.
